“This tour represents the continuation of Gibby Haynes working with Paul Green’s students (at School of Rock) that started in 2007. Back then Paul’s students were working with a lot of progressive rock artists, and he was worried that this was only giving them one perspective on music. It turned out that Paul and Gibby had a common friend in Dave Dreiwitz (Ween, JRAD) who made the introduction. What followed was the best kind of rock and roll insanity, including a reunion of the Butthole Surfers for a European tour with SOR opening and augmenting the headlining set.
Since then, a Gibby with Paul Green’s students tour has occurred every three years or so, always with mind bending results, including a legendary headlining set at the 2019 Meltasia festival. This is the fourth time they have all gotten back together, and this tour features new original material that will be recorded and released after this tour.
Gibby Haynes is a founder and lead singer of the legendary punk band Butthole Surfers. In addition, he has acted in many movies, played in side projects bands with Johnny Depp and Flea, published a YA novel, been a painter and DJ
Paul Green is the founder of School of Rock, was probably played by Jack Black in that movie, graduated from law school at 48, and has since opened The Paul Green Rock Academy.
